The Bread Festival at BONA
In Italy, there's a saying: il pane non si butta mai – bread is never thrown away. It's more than a rule of good table manners – it reflects a deep, long-standing respect for food that has, for centuries, symbolised abundance, labour and community. In many Italian towns, local sagre del pane are still held today – festivals devoted entirely to bread, where it's baked together, shared among neighbours, and celebrated at one long table.
In Italy, bread is never just a side. It usually stays on the table from the first course to the last, accompanying every conversation, every glass of wine, every gathering of family and friends. It's this spirit – of a shared table, simplicity, and respect for good food – that we wanted to bring to BONA.
To mark World Bread Day, we've created our own Festa del Pane – an evening in which bread, in different forms, takes centre stage across all three courses.
